Technology

Technology these days in the world is at an amazing level. It seems every month there is something new and improved out there on the market. In an article from the New York Times i just read it talks about how anybody can go to and download a virtual Cyber life. In the game you can pretty do anything you want. By paying a subscription fee you earn money that you can spend on in the game. The article talks in a way that you are living a life through the computer as you can control anything and move anywhere. To get around you can walk or fly or teleport instantly. The 256 by 256 grids are the area through the game you can move to. The article talks about what you can do on the game and the choices that you have. It seems today with more and more technology that people rarely talk face to face anymore. People are becoming less social and have less social skills. Games like these may become addicting. I personally know people who are addicted to virtual reality games and it consumes their lives. I dont think virtual reality is bad, I love playing video games but when those games become addictive and become really high on priority lists is when it becomes harmful.

on the internet nobody knows if your a dog

Looking at the pictures reproduced from the July 5, 1993 issue of The New Yorker, it reminds me to be careful using the internet and do not send personal information to unknown people. The picture shows that you rarely know the character and integrity of an indivdual through the internet especially in chat rooms. This picture helps me realize to be careful to protect myself and my identity. Even if you want to share information with someone, it is better to call them or try to arrange a face to face meeting. Just remember when using the internet to communicate with others. BE CAREFUL

The Internet. Reading 2

Google is a search engine that is used worldwide and is arguably the best search engine. In an article entitled When Google is not your friend written by Declan McCullagh it states that Google records searches and when asked court order will divulge an individuals search history. This article makes me realize that the Internet is not even close to being private and that things looked up and written down has the potential to be seen by many. The other article that struck me was about developing my own personal brand on the web. Journalism students need to market themselves in a way that represents who they are. It tells me that I need to develop a personal brand for myself and show the expertise that im expecially good at. Its important that if a person types my name in on Google that my name will come up first with information about who I am.

email etiquette

The biggest thing that i have learned about email rules and etiquette within the work environment is to be personable. The readings emphasize alot that email is still direct speaking to an indivdual and you must right as if the person was standing right in front of you. Answering a question via email should be done quickly. The readings point out that when a question by a client is sent through email they intent to recieve an answer quickly. It is very important to respond within the same business day if possible. Another important point is being short and to the point. No business man wants to read a huge email that is limited vital information. Report the information answering the questions quickly and promptly. Keep the information professional as possible. One thing i thought was interesting was the concept of people not taking advantage of others. Many people are more experienced using the email in business and using this knowledge to take advantage of others will catch back up to you eventually.

journalism

I understand a little better about what is correct information and what is not on the internet. Too many people in the world today believe everything they see on the television or internet. While most websites I believe try to get things right, there are plenty that have extreme bias in them that is not accurate. Following the ABCD format to analyzing a website is helpful. A is for accuracy and it consists of spelling correctly and formatting the text to make sense and give all the facts. B is for bias and its easy to tell if something is extremely biased by the language used on the website. Accurate websites will do there best to have all information about a person or topic not just the good or bad. C stands for content and D for design. Obviously a website that is not designed well will loose credibility. Overall when doing research get information from a variety of sources and use the ABCD format for analyzing the site to help find correct information.

The Major League Ballparks are predicted to serve 22 million hot dogs during the course of next season. Even though there are tons of new food options at baseball games these days, hot dogs still top the chart. This research was done the the National Hot Dog and Sausage council. Boston's Fenway Park, Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Ballpark and Los Angeles Dodger Stadium are the top three ballparks for hot dog consumtion. There is just something about going to a ball game and eating a nice juicy hot dog that is so appetizing. Recently I went to Dodger Stadium and I was able to try on of the faymous Dodger Dogs. The foot long hot dog really hit the spot and was perfect as I watched the Dodgers play. Baseball and hot dogs just seem to fit together. There is something about going to a ballgame and feeling the environment in the ballpark that is fascinating. Add in a hot dog and the game is truly a delight. Hot dogs always taste better at a baseball game. So the next time your at a ballgame go get yourself a hot dog and enjoy!! To even know that there is a national hot dog council is very interesting. For additional information about these hot dog statistics visit http://www.hot-dog.org
With the global economy on the downturn, stress and anxiety levels are on the upswing. Experts know and I know for a fact that exercise is a huge positive when stressed. Whenever i am stressed or feeling anxious and tight, the best thing for me to do is to go for a run or play some basketball. Exercising seems to have a cleansing effect on the mind as we get to let go of our problems for a minute and are able to focus and burn some of that built up anxiousness. Planet Fitness clubs are making things easier during these times as they are now offering a $1 sign up fee and $10 monthly after that. Its amazing how a company like Planet Fitness uses such a terrible time in the nation's economy as a driver for a new promotion. A PR specialist must think outside the box sometimes and think about how even bad things happening around us can help us promote or get new ideas out on the market to help boost the company.
Enlyten is a company that specializes is quick dissolving strips that help athletes in different areas to prepare for an athletic event. For example one of enlyten's strips consists of a perfect mix of melatonin and theanine designed to help aid mental and physical stress and help and to aid in sleep. Just recently Enlyten announced that Shaquille O'neal as the official Enlyten spokesperson. O'neal uses the Enlyten product and is a advocate of the product. I believe this is a brilliant thing for the Enlyten company because of Shaq's charisma. Shaq is one of the best entertainers in the NBA and a tremendous athlete. Enlyten is a new company and has grown tremendously in the last few months. The company has plans to go global and the addition of Shaq is a huge catalyst to the fast growing company. It was brilliant on the part of Enlyten to get O'neal on board as this company continues to grow in the tough market.
Sandra Robinson is a pre-school teacher in Memphis, Tennessee. Little did she think when she entered to win a trip to the NCAA Final Four that she would actually win. She won the register to win contest through Cellular South's nine retail stores in the Memphis area. The dream package is worth over 6,000 dollars with hotel, special event passes and lower level tickets to all the games at Ford Field in Detroit. Sandra is one lucky woman to win Final Four tickets. Cellular South conducted a six day "hoops mania" promotion with the grand prize recieved by Sandra. It is wonderful when companies reach out into the community and provide oppurtunities and chances for people to win prizes. I believe that providing oppurtunities for people that otherwise would not get the chance is very respectable of any company who works hard to provide wonderful chances like the one Sandra has recieved.

Newspapers are not dying. I like reading the paper and i dont think they will die out either. The idea that newspapers are dying is not true. While many specialists say that print centric papers may be dying the idea that newspaper is dying is wrong. Many people see reading the newspaper as dumb. Some see it as something old people do. I am a college student and I love to read the newspaper. Thier is something about holding it in your hand that makes it better than reading it on a computer screen. Newspapers are great for people to read and stay in touch with what is going on in your world

The knights of columbus kicked off a campaign to get coats for needy children in washington dc on january 19. I feel like more stuff like this needs to be reported on nightly news casts. I feel like everytime i turn on the news its always about what murder happened that day. The news fails to mention many great things that happen within cities and communities. Sure we need to know about the violence that is happening, but why cant we hear about the good that is going on too. I feel like there is alot of good in the world but we just dont feel like it is. Sure we have conflicts and wars going on but we have people striving for peace too.
My space is doing a online wedding series to attract older people . The users can vote on everything to locations of the wedding to what rings the bride and groom will have. I think that this is going to be interesting. I believe that this will only be used by people who are dreaming of thier own wedding. I think that too many people get caught up in a dream wedding and when their real one comes if its not exactly like they had envisioned it then they will be disappointed. People need to be more flexible and must understand that events in life rarely will be perfect

College Football

I am sick and tired of the BCS. The college football Bowl Championship Series is a series of polls and computer formulas that decides who gets to play for a national championship. What ever happened to playing the games on the field to decide who gets to play for the championship. All other collegiate sports have a playoff system that crowns a undisputable champion. Formulas that the computers use to decide is wrong. Even in division II football, the champion is decided by a playoff. I understand the bowl games have extreme amounts of money involved but what is it gonna take for the BCS to realize that their system is crap and they are being selfish. Heck you can still name each game of the playoff series and still have the major sponsors. College football is such a great sport but it is unfortunate that the computers decide who plays and who doesn't.
